Final AutoCad Kitchen drawings!!

Final AutoCad Kitchen drawings!!

2 weeks later and I have pretty much mastered AutoCad! Well chuffed!

Detail project one: Final wallpaper

Detail project one: Final wallpaper

For the  first part of the detail project, I chose to design a wallpaper which will later fit into the final design of my restaurant.

I wanted to go against the notions of 2D wallpapers, and ultimately came up with a 3D pattern, which interacts with the sunlight, creating a second, moving shadow pattern as the sun moves.

The site I have chosen for my restaurant design, is very rich in natural sunlight. When I did my first site survey, I was very drawn to how the different shapes of the building cast shadows, almost embedding the ground in shadows in different shapes and sizes.

I was looking for an organic shape and initially looked at tree branches and the way they move in the wind.

However during the experimentation stage, I found that the branch patterns looked too messy and uneasy for the eye, so I ultimately came up with this pattern. The extruding waves, represents the tree branches and as the shadows move across the patterns it almost looks like the branches moving in the wind.

Toi Maori Tahi weekend class: Noho One

Toi Maori Tahi weekend class: Noho One

As part of stay here in New Zealand I decided that I wanted to broaden my knowledge and explore the origins of the native Maori culture. I have therefore enrolled in a somewhat different elective as part of my semester at Unitec. The Toi Maori Tahi course, looks up close at the Maori arts in relation to traditions, customs, environment and practice .

The Toi Maaori Tahi, is delivered once a month, at the Marae (traditional Maori house) here at Unitec.

A Marae is a very sacred place which serves religious and social purposes for the Maori’s.

Staying overnight inside the beautiful Marae, we spend a weekend, engaging and learning about the Toi Maori ( Maori arts) and its origin, disciplines and customs.

This weekend we started out with a big feast and prayer then headed inside the Marae for a short tutorial, before calling it a night.

The next day we headed up north and spent the day in  Te Hana where we visited a traditional Maori village to gain a little knowledge on Maori history and get an insight on how they used to live.

It was a wonderful weekend and I am super stoked for the next Noho!

My first AutoCAD drawing!!!

My first AutoCAD drawing!!!

Simple I know, but I am bloody proud of this drawing!

So for my Construction Technology class, we have been given the task to re-design our Tutor’s (Matthew) kitchen.

There are two main Criteria for designing the new kitchen:

One: The kitchen gets very hot in the summer, and very unpleasant to cook in, so we have to come up with a solution to make the kitchen cooler.

Two: The client wants to make a laundry space within the kitchen.

The site is pretty manageable and small, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to learn how to use AutoCAD… well I didn’t really have a choice as we were told to design our kitchen using AutoCAD :S  … but so far so good…
